Shahla Atlas is a classically-trained musician and composer. She began with piano at age three and continued in various musical and academic programs for accelerated learning throughout metropolitan New York with studies in music theory, score-reading, rudimentary instruction on all orchestral instruments, ensemble playing and in-depth study of the clarinet.

Enrolled as a pre-teen at The Juilliard School where she spent the next ten years refining abilities in solo, chamber and orchestral performance, she experienced the intense juxtaposition of her musical identities as she was concurrently active within local punk, grunge, EDM and hip-hop communities, including early experimentation with DAWs, DJ-ing and live electronics that led to collaborative partnerships with bands, commercial studios and underground art collectives alike — ultimately coming of age while cradled between the premiere institutions of Lincoln Center and the vast and unbridled subcultures of 90s NYC. With deep gratitude for her own educational profile and in efforts to pass the creative torch, she later worked in different capacities both privately and on various faculties including a stint as a teaching artist on Broadway.

Shahla is most inspired by multidisciplinary work for global audiences that draw on her roots in classical music and recording arts. She has enjoyed a diverse career of local and international projects across genres for over twenty years. Born and raised in New York City, she left her studio in Williamsburg and her home in Greenpoint behind for a life in Stockholm.
